Junk food, frozen entrees and candy are the worst offenders.

More and more consumers are focusing on healthy eating. They are more aware. They are becoming fed up with food offerings full of unpronounceable compounds that resemble the ingredients to "Jet Fuel." There are thousands of FDA-approved brand-name grocery products that are contaminated with toxic and dangerous ingredients. How can you determine what is bad and what is good? Read ingredient labels as well as nutritional labels. Read on, as well, for some information about ingredients you should avoid.

For example, be alert for cloned animal meat preserved with carbon monoxide and Red Dye #40, two proven carcinogens. Also, did you know that the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved genetically-engineered rice that contaminated the US food Supply? Safety tests were skipped. See Resources for more information.

  1. Step 1

Avoid sulfites, which are used as a preservative, because they induce asthma. Dangerous sulfites include sulfur dioxide, potassium metabisulfite, sodium metabisulfite, potassium bisulfite, sodium bisulfite and sodium sulfite. Many of these ingredients have been associated with ADHD, violent behavior, seizures, migraine headaches, asthma, constipation, sinus congestion, cancer, heart attacks, diabetes, obesity and hypertension.

  2. Step 2

Avoid monosodium glutamate (MSG), which is added to food as a flavor enhancer. Symptoms from it can include headaches, nausea, rapid heartbeat, chest pains and vomiting, as well as a tingling, numbness or burning sensation along the neck, arms and face. Restaurants may be using MSG without listing it--especially Asian establishments. Courteously ask them to hold the MSG.

  3. Step 3

Avoid aspartame, a neurotoxin, because it induces hives, migraines, dizziness, rashes, swelling of the lips or eyelids, difficulty breathing, rapid heart beat and depression. People with mood disorders may be more vulnerable to these reactions. Aspartame is also in medications as a sweetening agent.

  4. Step 4

Re-search indicates that FD & C Yellow No. 5 (tartrazine) seems to be a trigger for asthma, runny nose and hives. If you are sensitive to aspirin, then your probably sensitive to tartrazine. Read more at www.truthpublishing.com/grocerywarning_p/yprint-cat21246.htm.
