From Quick Guide: Food Storage Guide
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plywood (approximately 12 pieces)
  • 1-inch strip wood (approximately 48 pieces)
  • 2-by-4 wood boards (4)
  • Nails or screws
  • Wood glue
  • L brackets (48)
  • Clamps (optional)
  1. Step 1

Decide how large you would like your can storage and then you can decide on how much of the materials you need based on that. For this example, I am going to make it 12 shelves.

  2. Step 2

The 4 2-by-4 boards are going to be the support system for the plywood shelves. The plywood shelves are going to be attached using the L brackets. The back-end needs to be about 1 inch higher than the front end. To begin, attach the L brackets to the 2-by-4 boards. The front 2 start at the very bottom and attach the L bracket, either by nails or screws. Work your way up with a new bracket about every 6 inches. On the back 2 2-by-4 boards, start 1 inch up when attaching the L brackets and then continue up about every 6 inches.

  3. Step 3

Use the 1-inch strips to make the rows on the plywood for the cans. Use some cans around then house as a measuring guide. Allow for some rows to be different widths for bigger cans. Attach the strips by wood glue, clamp into place if you wish, allow about an hour to dry and then nail. Make sure to put a strip at the end of each plywood board; then put ones in the middle to make rows for the cans.

  4. Step 4

Then attach the plywood board to the 2-by-4 board with the other end of the L bracket, screw or nail into place. Continue for each Shelf, until all the shelves are attached.

  5. Step 5

Insert cans down the rows, put oldest cans on first. As you buy more cans, insert them from the back so that they are at the end of the line. When you go to get a can to use, take the one from the front. Let the others roll forward.
