Saddle sores in the groin, upper legs and butt can be painful and sometimes force you to take time off from cycling. The sores are a result of blocked or infected glands where your weight is resting on the bike seat. The best thing to do is prevent them from occurring in the first place. Read on to learn some ways you can do that.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set up your bike correctly. If your seat is too high it forces you to reach for your pedals and causes pressure or chaffing. If the seat is too low, your legs don't properly support your body and there is excess pressure as you sit on the seat.

  2. Step 2

Before your ride, put on a good chamois creme or BodyGlide to prevent chafing.

  3. Step 3

Wear padded cycling shorts without underwear. The padding helps reduce pressure on sensitive areas.

  4. Step 4

After the ride, take off your shorts and was yourself. Don't wear those shorts until they have been washed. Good hygiene is essential to prevent saddle sores.

  5. Step 5

Avoid sudden increases in mileage on the bike.

  6. Step 6

If the problem persists, try a different seat. Seats with a soft area or cutout are helpful.
