Use the Flash Lasso Tool

If you want to select custom areas or outlines of your fills and strokes, use the Flash lasso tool. It offers more options than the Arrow Tool, with which you can draw a square bounding box or select the entirety of the shape. Read on to learn more about how to use the Flash lasso tool.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Working installation of Flash
  1. Step 1

Click the Lasso Tool button in the left-hand Tools menu (second down in the right-hand column).

  2. Step 2

Click and drag to draw a freehand outline of the area of your fill/shape that you want to select.

  3. Step 3

When you're ready to close the shape, drag the outline back to the starting point and let go of the mouse. You can select multiple unconnected areas by holding down the Shift key and drawing another selection.

  4. Step 4

To change from the freehand Lasso Tool to the Polygon Lasso, look at the Options area at the bottom of the Tools menu and click the last button to turn on the Polygon Lasso. This works the same as the freehand Lasso Tool; but instead of drawing freeform outlines you click from point to point to create a multi-sided polygon selection.

  5. Step 5

To use Magic Wand selection, click the Magic Wand button in the Options section at the bottom of the Tools menu.

  6. Step 6

Change the Magic Wand settings by clicking the Magic Wand Settings button and entering values for the Threshold (tolerance for deviation in selection like areas) and Smoothing.
