Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Take notes. Designate a special notebook for this purpose. When something pops into your head that will benefit your business, write it down. It won't take much time. You won't lose the thought.
Step2
Watch others. When you go to the market, the post office or the dentist, watch how other entrepreneurs do business. Even if they're not in the same line of work as you, they are probably doing something you can tailor to your own needs.
Step3
Surf the web. Especially if your business has a web component, pay attention to the details of the sites you visit daily. Evaluate each website and learn something useful from each visit. Pay attention to nuts-and-bolts features like navigation, font size, background colors and patterns, links. Take notes and improve your own site accordingly.
Step4
Grab the scissors. As you read the newspaper or magazines, cut out items that can help you in your work. Perhaps it's an ad with a unique offering designed to pull in customers; maybe it's an article about computer software. If it can help you develop your business, cut it out and put it in a drop file. Review the file frequently.
Step5
Schedule a block of time every week to review your notes and drop file and to work on your business. If you typically experience a slow time on Monday morning or Friday afternoon, put that time to best use.
