How to Make Inexpensive Wedding Decorations

This article is on a few ideas that may be used for decorations for a wedding, depending on what a person is willing to use to decorate for a wedding. These come from a few craft ideas I've learned over the years and some are adapted to the theme.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • styrofoam cups
  • roll of thin ribbon
  • recycled cardboard tubes (paper toweling or toilet paper rolls)
  • construction and tissue paper
  • kleenex (maybe)
  • any array of crafting suppies depending on what is made

Step1
This is an old favorite of mine. Shrink Styrofoam cups in an oven.
they must be turned upside so that they shrink to form a little hat-like object. This is done on a baking sheet, which probably should be covered with foil. It's done at 450 degrees farenheit for 5 to 8 minutes. (Check frequently to make sure it's not melted to a blob or burnt). Decorate with a little bow made from thin ribbon by gluing it on. These can be used for mint cups if turned upside down or just a regular decoration. (They also might remind one somewhat of a bell shape as well).
Step2
Can old cardboard tubing as in the stuff in the center of a paper towel roll, gift wrap or toilet paper be used? Cover these with construction paper completely and glue little floral decorations made from tissue paper on them.
Step3
Find used cardboard boxes, cardboard tubing, or make boxes. Wrap them in gift wrap. Find any type of ribbon, whether curling, satin or what ever other type decorative ribbon can be obtained. Put this around the box as if finishing wrapping a gift. Also, a bag of stick on bows can be obtained.
Step4
Learn how to make flowers out of colored Kleenex. Use a green twist tie, wire, or string to help keep it's shape.
Step5
Buy special wedding themed computer paper and use the computer to make special themed wedding signs or a poem to hang up in honor of the wedding.
Step6
Buy craft wedding rings or plastic doves and other wedding medium to make themed centerpieces. I know Hobby Lobby has a great deal of small plastic wedding themed items. Tiny floral pieces may be obtained there to help decorate for the wedding.
Step7
Make your own corsages! This may be simpler than thought. Needed are small bouquets of wire mini flowers, ribbon, and glue on or stick on pin backs. Make sure someone who knows the basic principles of what looks good artistically in such a floral arrangement makes these. The ribbon may be used to wrap the stems to hide them and to make a bow for the corsage.
Step8
Rolls of tulle may make an excellent wedding decoration. They can be cut and used on windows like window scarves or used as an alternative for streamers.
Step9
Many more ideas may be obtained from how to books at the craft store. Check them out!

Tips & Warnings

  • Another good place to shop for inexpensive items to help with the decorations is Dollar Tree.
  • Supervise children if they are helping make the decorations.
