Publish an Animated GIF From Flash

Compiling a Flash animation requires access to the Adobe Flash software and all of its palettes, menus, timeline and stage, but viewing a Flash file doesn't require the same setup. After you design a Flash document, such as a movie clip featuring an animated GIF, you complete the process by publishing the file. This converts the FLA Flash file into a file called a SWF, openable by anyone with the free Flash reader software. Publishing your animated GIF ensures a much larger viewing audience than just those with the actual Flash software.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Adobe Flash. To add the animated GIF to an existing Flash file, click the "Open" link, browse to the file and double-click it. Otherwise, click the "Flash Document" link in the middle of the "Create New" column.

    • 2

Scroll the timeline indicator to the keyframe to add the animated GIF. Upon opening, the timeline is on keyframe 1.

    • 3

Right-click the keyframe and select "Insert Blank Keyframe," which adds a hollow circle to the keyframe. Skip this step if you are adding the animated GIF into keyframe 1, which already has the circle.

    • 4

Click the "File" menu. Click "Import." Click "Import to Stage." Browse to and double-click the animated GIF. Drag it into position on the stage as desired.

    • 5

Click the "File" menu once more. Click the "Export" option. Click "Export Movie" from the fly-out menu.

    • 6

Choose the location to publish the Flash file, such as the desktop. Type a name in the File name box and click the "Save" button. A published SWF file appears, with the animated GIF, in the location to which you saved it.
