Sometimes due to a poor job market having great qualifications will not unnecessarily mean you will not have a hard time finding a job. Here are a few things to consider to put you above the competition.
Make sure to start with a positive attitude and a great resume.
Step2
What will set you above the rest: Its not what you can get from the company, it is what you can do for the company!! All Company's have problems find out how you can solve it and you will have a sure shot at the job.
Step3
Do not share sad stories with your prospected employer. An employer who sees an applicant as a mess, will just go to the next qualified applicant. Get your personal life in order as best you can.
Step4
A job will usually not find you, you will have to find it. Set a target amount of time you will spend on your job search each week and stick to it. As with so many other things in life, you get out of it as much as you put into it.
Step5
Appearance counts! Showing up with worn sneakers and dirty hair will not cut it. Make sure that you have the right clothes to go on interviews. This doesn’t necessarily mean formal suits. Your wardrobe should match the industry you are in and the job that you seeking.
Step6
Your Hothoney@gmail.com address and your cunning jokes on the answer machine my have be cute for your friends but it doesn’t make for a good first impression or convey the image you want to project. Change your e-mail address and your answer machine message to something appropriate.
Step7
Telling the interviewer that you hate your job because you do not like the people you work with is not a good idea. This shows that you may not get along with others. If there are other qualified applicants to choose from, they will usually just move to the next one with less baggage. The boss is usually trying to find someone that will make their work easier.
Step8
If you find yourself not getting a job after searching for a while it may be time to look at a different career move. Look at what type of things you are good at and what interests you. If you choose wisely, a career move does not mean you have to start from the bottom of the food chain. In fact you may find that you can make your unique attributes to your new career be worth more then in your current job. Taking a career profiler may help you find just that.
Tips & Warnings
“Two men are hunting and suddenly they come upon what appears to be a large, hungry bear. Both men are startled and start to run. As they are running, one man says to the other. You know, we’ll never be able to outrun the bear. To which the other man replies, I don’t have to outrun the bear; I only have to outrun
you.” I'm not for sure where this came from, but I am sure it applies here.
Do not put all you eggs in one basket. Even if a interview did well and you think you have the job. It usually is not a good idea to wait to find out if you got the job, before moving on to look at other possibilities. It sometimes takes weeks to find out if you get the job after the interview.
Remember in the end, no one owes you a job. It truly is your responsibility to find a job. Sure, there are recruiters, friends, etc. The bottom line is that
u can’t and shouldn’t depend on anyone else to get you a job.
