Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Work on the invitation list with your tween, making sure you are not forgetting to invite some people who might get their feelings hurt, and also making sure that children who may start trouble are not invited.
Step2
Have a firm guest list so that people who were not invited cannot crash the party.
Step3
Make sure you have plenty of space for kids to gather. One large room and a couple of nearby rooms would work fine. You want to make sure they have somewhere to go to take a breather if needed.
Step4
Have activities planned. Set up stations where kids can participate in different activities. There can be a couple of game tables where kids can play chess or Uno. There can be a station where kids can play video games or Karaoke. The larger area should be reserved for music and dancing (if the kids want to dance) or other entertainment. Having lots of things to do will also help the time pass quickly.
Step5
Provide constant chaperones. Chaperones need to be somewhat invisible. They need not participate in the party, just be ever-present. Too much privacy for tweens in a boy-girl party could be a bad idea. Even when it is just boys or girls, kids can also be targeted or bullied. Try to solicit a couple of parents to chaperon, or even a couple of very responsible older teens so the kids don't feel like they are being spied on.
