1
Visit your bedroom as if you're seeing it for the first time. Does it look like a place where you can really relax? Think about your personality (and your partner's, too). Are there things in it that prevent your unwinding?
-
2
Look to see if there is enough drawer and closet space to put all your clothes away. Even when you don't have time to do it each day, you should have room to store everything. You may need to review your set-up and either create more space, store things in another room or get rid of the excess. Nothing is less restful than a bedroom with piles of clothes all over the place.

3
Find other kinds of clutter that has accumulated in your bedroom. Get rid of it! Leave only artwork, photos and personal objects that have pleasant meanings for you.
-
4
Does reading help you relax? Then put your books in bookcases or pile them neatly near the bed. If there are too many, take them out.
-
5
Make sure the lights can be turned down when you're unwinding from a long, hard day. Energy-saving bulbs may not have dimmers, but you can choose low-wattage ones.
-
6
Make sure the drapes, blinds or shades close for privacy. There are times when you need to be alone.
-
7
Take a good look at the linens on your bed. Do the fabrics and colors make you happy? Depending on your budget, replace them as needed, either all at once or little by little.
-
8
Consider putting small rugs near the bed so you have a warm cozy place when you put your feet down on the floor. Make sure that wall-to-wall is vacuumed regularly.
-
9
Are you one those people who watch TV in bed? It may not be very relaxing so consider removing it. Watching a show about murder right before you fall asleep won't help you unwind.
-
10
Consider aromatherapy. The body is sensitive to fragrances. You can turn it on when you go into the room to undress and turn it off just before you get into bed.
