Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Adequate amounts of sleep and exercise
- A balanced diet
- Plenty of water
Step1
Pay attention to what you eat. Are you eating a balanced diet consisting of lots of colorful fruits and veggies, some lean meat to keep your blood sugar up, some low-fat dairy for strong bones, and a little "good" fat? If you make the effort to eat right (starting off with a healthy breakfast each day), you may be amazed at how much better you feel.
Step2
Get enough sleep. Seven hours is the minimum amount you need in order to feel well-rested. Studies have linked getting less than 7 hours' sleep per night to all kinds of unpleasant consequences, including weight gain and shortened lifespans. If you have trouble getting to sleep, try to establish a soothing pre-bedtime routine with activities such as bathing, listening to calming music and reading a not-too-exciting book.
Step3
Drink lots of water. It can be hard to do this, even though we know we should, but it helps if you can picture that water doing what it's supposed to--moving the nutrients of the healthy food you eat to where they need to be in your body. Water helps to carry away waste products and to keep your cells hydrated.
Step4
Incorporate a little exercise into your daily grind. Even if you don't have time for a full workout, just managing to walk up a few flights of stairs or hike the length of a parking lot will help relieve some of your pent-up muscle tension. Exercising can also send oxygenated blood to your brain, helping you to feel better and think more clearly, and can make your heart and lungs operate more efficiently.
