How to Avoid Being Manipulated at Work

1
Realize that a manipulator can't manipulate you if you don't let them. Don't let your manipulator know that they have found your weakness and are taking advantage of it.
-
2
Once a manipulator starts asking you to do a specific action, don't reward this person with a yes. A manipulator will repeat their behavior if you let them get away with it.
-
-
3
Act as if though you are not affected by whatever manipulative actions they may take. Be strong. Tell yourself that you are not affected by this person's actions or words.
-
4
Don't do anything. If you are asked to do something you are not comfortable with, especially if it is not within your work duties. Take your time to think through it. Taking additional time, will give you a chance to calm down, re-think your thoughts and strengthen you in order to say "no."
-
5
During your thought process, think "what makes me uncomfortable about what I am being asked to do?" "Of what I am being asked, what seems reasonable and what doesn't?"
-
6
Take control of the situation. Ask your manipulator why is it so important that you do what they ask you to do? Ask if there is a particular reason why you should get involved.
