How to Take Closeup Pictures of your Cats

Let's face it, sometimes your pets just don't want to cooperate when you want them to. Here are a few tips to help you take those really great candid closeup shots of your fav pets.

Things You’ll Need:

• A pet or two (in this case my cats)
• A camera
• A lot of patience

1. Peeking around a pole. One of the best ways to get some great pics of your pet is to get down to their level and relax on the floor with them. Cats being naturally curious will usually stick quite close while you are able to get some great shots of them.
2. Aragorn taken with a yellow filter. Getting closeups are the best way to show the personality of your pet. When they are relaxed they will let their personality shine through for you.
3. Time for some preening of the fur. If you have a problem keeping them close to you either try to entice them with a string or use your telephoto lens and zoom in on them.
4. Up close and Purr-sonal. If you just let your pets do what comes naturally to them, you can get some great candid shots to add to your photo album or turn into an great art piece for your wall.
5. Hiding behind the Flowers If you have a camera handy at all times, you can catch them playing, napping or just lounging around and get some great pics. Like this one, focusing on the flowers and putting the kitty slightly out of focus in the background for a fun shot. Just remember to give them their personal space and get down to their level and they should stay where they are so you can snap away and get those great shots.
6. Legolas Lounging in the Sunshine Use your camera without a flash when you find your kitty napping or lounging in the sun. You can get some great photos that are frame ready.
7. Franklin closeup and softened If you get a great shot don't forget to crop your photograph and get rid of the distracting background images. Simply let their face be the focus of the shot.
8. Legolas and Friend Catch them doing the unexpected, like watching an outdoor subject like this squirrel on a tree just outside the window.
9. Legolas and Aragorn Catch them lounging with a friend.
10. Cat Burgular Turn a great picture into a caption for a website like this one. Catching a cat red-handed can make for a great caption.
11. Caught on the table. Okay, so not all kitties are good, some like to lounge on the table which makes for a cute picture.
12. Madison NOT on the table. Okay, so she says she is NOT ON the table. Purr-fect, a smart-alec cat!
13. Feet First. Sometimes a fun way to get a perspective of your subject that you didn't expect is to set the camera on the floor in front of the subject and click away.

Tips & Warnings

• Just have fun and let your pet dictate where the photo session go and you will be pleasantly surprised at all the wonderful photos that you will get. Suitable for putting in an album or framing or even winning a photo contest or two!
