A popular item children beg their parents to own is a cellphone, and this may be a constant debate in your house between you and your child. Here's how to choose a cellphone for your child if you decide to get them one.
Before you even visit the store to purchase a cellphone for your child it is important that you discuss why the child is receiving a cellphone as well as what responsibilities come with it.
Step2
When you go to the store to pick it out, allow your child to express an interest in which cellphone they want to receive, but remind them that you have overall say in what they ultimately get. Many times you can outline what a cellphone should and should not have with your child when discussing the concept in the previous step. This helps them to find a phone at the store that is perfect for what they need rather than simply wanting the latest model.
Step3
Once they have received a cellphone make them responsible for some aspect of it. For example they must pay for every minute of their cellphone they use through deduction in allowance or helping out around the home. Failing to do so may be grounds for you to take the cellphone away.
Step4
Have a detailed plan in place when you make the purchase of what you and your child agreed to. This makes it easier for you as a parent to determine when your child is abusing their privilege of having a cellphone as well as what consequences are an appropriate punishment for their abuse.
