5. Of course you do have the option of using air fresheners and plug-ins in high traffic areas of your home where guests may be or in areas where your pets spend a lot of time. While this will not eliminate the pet odor it can help to overcome some of the smell.

6. Finally you should ensure that your carpets are steam cleaned periodically if you have pets. This may require you to do it every four to six months, but having a fresh smelling home will be worth it.
