Although you adore your pets, you don't want the smell in your home to indicate to your visitors that they rule the roost. Here is how to eliminate pet odors from your home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Before eliminating pet odors from your home it is important that you take the time to properly house break your dog or train your cat to go in the litter box. Doing this will eliminate the urine smell that can accompany homes where dogs and cats are not properly trained.

  2. Step 2

Cleaning your home regularly is one of the most important steps since this provides you with the opportunity to sweep up the pet hair and dandruff that may be on your floors and carpets causing your home to smell.

  3. Step 3

Just as frequently as you clean your home you should also bathe your pets. Smells tend to accumulate over time on them as their hair becomes dirty and in some cases wet. By bathing them regularly you can remove most of the smell.

  4. Step 4

You can cut down on the pet odors you have in your home by choosing to use carpet or floor deodorizer when you clean. Generally you sprinkle this over your floor before you vacuum or sweep. Doing so releases ingredients in the product that attack the pet hair and dandruff reducing the odor.

  5. Step 5

Of course you do have the option of using air fresheners and plug-ins in high traffic areas of your home where guests may be or in areas where your pets spend a lot of time. While this will not eliminate the pet odor it can help to overcome some of the smell.

  6. Step 6

Finally you should ensure that your carpets are steam cleaned periodically if you have pets. This may require you to do it every four to six months, but having a fresh smelling home will be worth it.

on 5/5/2009 I love Febreeze and incense. I also make sure to clean the litter box. LOL. I'll have to try the carpet deodorizer trick.

It gets rid of the by destroying the bacteria, mold, mildew, organic matter or compound that causes the problem. It's really strong to get really safer people and pets. Not to much in the environment. Best of all account of the money back guarantee. I like that!
You can get it on a website called BiocideSystems.com

on 10/3/2008 My daughter is getting a dog for Christmas this year...(shhh!) so I can only assume this will come in handy because there is nothing worse than a person who's house smells like pet funk, and I don't want to become that person :-)

on 7/23/2008 Interesting tips! I have a very sensitive nose for odors and nothing I’ve used has worked better than the RGF Guardian Air Plug in Plus. I have one in my basement, bedroom, and next to the cat litter box! It eliminates those funky smells and makes me feel good about my house. I’d recommend it to everyone!
