Some cat parents treat their cats like children. For these lucky felines, there is more to life than scratching posts and stuffed mice. If you are one of these cat parents, there are bigger and better ways to entertain your cat. They can be pricey. But if money is no object, these suggestions can improve the quality of life for virtually any feline.

Things You'll Need

• Cat grass
• Window perch
• Screened-in porch or cat fence

Instructions

1. Plant cat grass. You can buy this at your local pet supply store and it safely satisfies the feline urge to graze on plants.

2. Install an indoor perch near a sunny window to provide a place where your cat can bird watch, people watch or just generally watch the world go by. Padded perches can be bought at pet supply stores or from catalogue or online retailers. Other options are an enclosure that fits into a window frame (much like an air conditioner unit) and larger ones that attach to the side of your house or ground-floor apartment patio.

3. Screen in your porch or build/purchase a cat fence. Either of these enclosures will allow your cat to safely experience being outside without escaping.

Tips & Warnings

• If you screen in your porch or install a cat fence, make sure there are no avenues of escape or potentially dangerous objects or chemicals accessible to your cat.

• If you install a window perch, supervise your cat when in use.

• Cat fences may not prevent other animals from entering your yard, so always supervise your cat when outside.
