It's not often done, but there are certain times when such a switch needs to happen. The most common reason to pull such a thing is when you realize that your roommate and the girl your dating are actually better for each other and you need an easy way to break up with the person. Whatever the reason, here are a few tips to consider.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A roommate/friend
  • Significant other
  1. Step 1

First and foremost, you must discuss this with your roommate before any of the plans begin to formulate. You might think they get along, but maybe they really don't like each other.

  2. Step 2

Picture the two of them together. Make sure it doesn't bother you too much to see them hanging out together. If you can picture it, and especially if it seems fine to you, proceed.

  3. Step 3

Set up the shoulder to cry on and cold shoulder. You must be the cold shoulder and your roommate must be prepared to be the shoulder to cry on. Don't be an jerk, but just act a little distant and standoffish while your around the person during this transition.

  4. Step 4

Your roommate must be there for the person, to talk to about why you're being this way. So make sure they ask prying questions to make the person talk about you, and make sure they start moving in by complimenting and being supportive.

  5. Step 5

Now ideally, you want the other person to start hooking up with your roommate or at least falling for your roommate during the opposite shoulders period. And then, once you get word from your roommate that the transformation has been made, then you make the break up happen.

  6. Step 6

If that doesn't happen, then tell your roommate to pour it on strong and see what happens. If the person takes to it, then the break up can proceed.

  7. Step 7

If they aren't biting, make the break up happen and at least you've set it up properly for the exchange. It may not happen right away, but when it does it's a nice transition and everyone is happy. Easy, right?

Tips & Warnings
  • Be thorough, make no mistake, this is a difficult and potentially dangerous situation. But it's very rewarding in the end if you pull it off.
