The best food for your growing baby is food you make yourself and puree for feeding. Whether you grow your own vegetables or purchase them from a farmer's market you know exactly what is in the food you are feeding your precious child. Read on to learn how to make baby food cubes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cook the vegetable until soft. This can be done by boiling, baking or steaming depending on which vegetable you cook.

  2. Step 2

Allow the food to cool before further processing.

  3. Step 3

Use the food mill, blender or food processor to puree the food to a mush. For very young babies just starting natural foods, add breast milk or formula to thin the puree.

  4. Step 4

Pour or spoon the mixture into the individual compartments of the ice cube trays.

  5. Step 5

Cover the trays with plastic wrap and stack them in the freezer.

  6. Step 6

Remove the cubes from the trays when frozen solid. Store in labeled freezer bags in the freezer.

  7. Step 7

Take as many cubes as needed for a feeding from the bags and thaw either in the refrigerator or quick thaw in the microwave.

Tips & Warnings
  • Meats, fruits and pasta blends can also be frozen using this method.
  • Each ice cube tray holds approximately 1 oz. of food.
  • Never thaw baby food cubes on the counter. Like all foods they can pick up bacteria or spoil without refrigeration.
  • When using the microwave quick thaw method, be sure to stir and cool the food thoroughly and test for any hot spots that could burn baby's mouth.

on 3/13/2008 This is the best thing to feed your baby. No chemicals!
This brings back memories from when my daughter was a baby. This is exactly what I did. Also, one time my mom was watching my daughter for me and saw a bag of what she thought was frozen chocolates (teehee) and popped one in her mouth and lol, it was pureed prunes!
