Countless people around the world will at one time or another have difficulty sleeping through the night. Your problem may begin before you even get to your bed. Here is how you can get into a bedtime routine.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Try to eat dinner at the same time every night during the week. Eating at different times during the week can affect how tired you feel during the evening hours.
Step2
Have a designated time when you wish to go to sleep. Make this similar to your morning departure time. For example, if you leave every morning at or around 9:00 a.m., you could aim to be in bed with the lights out by 11:00 p.m. every night.
Step3
Do the same things in order before you get into bed. For example, you could change your clothes, brush your teeth and then hop into bed. This will help to get your body physically prepared for sleep.
Step4
Turn the lights off roughly a half hour to an hour before you desire to go to sleep. You’ll actually begin to feel more tired if your home or apartment is darker.
Step5
If you have a TV in your bedroom, don’t be afraid of watching TV while laying in bed. Some experts will tell you this is a bad idea but you may find this to be a soothing activity. Try to watch the same show or type of program every night in order to add this into your bedtime routine.
Step6
Don’t change your routine during the weekends. While you may go to bed at a later hour, try to continue with the rest of your bedtime routine during the weekend. This will keep your body from being “thrown off” every fifth day.
