For many, Lent is merely a time of year in which an activity will be given up. Lent should also be a time for charity. Here is how to be charitable during Lent.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose an activity or an item to give up during Lent that is somewhat costly. For example, you could give up going out to eat during Lent. This example would include getting coffee and snacks outside of the home.

  2. Step 2

Tabulate how much money you spend weekly on this particular activity or item.

  3. Step 3

At the end of the first week of Lent, take half of that money that you would have spent and give it to a charitable organization. Then, take the other half and either place it somewhere safe at home or put it in the bank.

  4. Step 4

Continue to do this during every week of Lent. If you desire, you can give to the same organization at the end of every week or simply switch between a few different organizations.

  5. Step 5

Once Lent has concluded, take the other half of money which you have not donated yet and give the total amount of money either to your church or once again to charity.
