No one likes shoveling snow. It's cold, wet and there's the risk of injury. If you really have to shovel snow, do it a way so that you can avoid injury.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Warm Clothes
  • Metal snow shovel
  • Something to drink
  1. Step 1

Dress warm! Use gloves that have an easy grip so you can lift the shovel easier. A hat, scarf, and a good jacket will keep you warm.

  2. Step 2

Before you even go outside, stretch. You're going to be lifting and pushing. You're working your muscles just as much as if you were going to the gym.

  3. Step 3

Bring out something to drink with you. Water is best. You sweat when you shovel snow and you probably won't even realize it. A drink will keep you hydrated.

  4. Step 4

Snow doesn't look that heavy, but it is. Metal shovels are easier to use and have less chance of breaking. No matter what size shovel you are using, only put as much snow on as you can handle. The snow won't get finished if you try to get it done quicker by putting too much snow on the shovel and you throw your back out.

  5. Step 5

If you can push the snow out of the way, do it.

  6. Step 6

Don't bend with your back. That is the best way to hurt it. Use your knees instead.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't think you can chance shoveling the snow, have someone else shovel it for you.
