More and more Americans are finding themselves in debt way over their heads. it is so easy to over spend these days! If someone close to you like a spouse or family member is seeming to spend quit a bit of money these days and lying about it then they may have a problem.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Understanding
  • Patience
  • Self control
Step1
Shopping really is an addiction just like alcohol or drugs, gambling, etc... It is all about the "high" they get from making a purchase. It is easy to spiral out of control and find it hard to gain the control back! I know I have been there. I ended up finding out it was all about my inner emotions.
Step2
I was feeling unhappy and shopping would instantly make me happy. I would wake up and just think about where I was going to shop and what I was going to buy that day. It became a problem that ended up costing me thousands of dollars. I was in debt and I felt like I could not gain the control back.
Step3
My husband pulled me out of it and helped me get through it. He noticed the signs that I had and became my support system. So if you feel that you are faced with someone you care about lying about their spending habits then the best thing you can do is approach them with support.
Step4
Over spending is a way of hiding your deeper needs and feelings. Talk to them and ask them how they are doing without bring up the issue right away. Trying to uncover the root of the problem is key to helping them over come it.
Step5
You can let them know that you are there for them and can help them. There are programs that offer help for this addiction. It may be hard to act as their "parent" but someone needs to open their eyes about their future. There are only two things to do..either continue down that path and end up owing so much money and being in debt for years and years possibly or getting the help they need.
Step6
Just talking sometimes can make a person feel better and knowing that someone is there for them for the support that they need. It is their choose to make this bad habit into a positive habit.

On the other hand if they have the money to spend then maybe it is the fact that they are just trying to hide the real amounts they spend so others don't judge them. If they have it then they can spend it.
Step7
Either way lying to anyone is not a good idea. So if you feel someone is not being honest with you about how much they spend then perhaps you just need to stop paying attention to the things that they purchase. All you can do is voice your concern for them to them and hope for the best.

In the end, you can not control others in any way. Their habit are their own and all you can do is be a good friend to them!
