Hummus is a traditional Middle Eastern dip served with flat bread (such as pita), tortilla chips, crackers and vegetables or as a spread in sandwiches. In Arabic, hummus is the word used to describe chickpeas only. In the recipe below, we'll show you how to make an easy hummus recipe with an ingredient you never saw coming--peanut butter. Curious? Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 can garbanzo beans (chickpeas); drained and liquid reserved
  • 3 tbsp. peanut butter
  • Handful of fresh parsley
  • Juice of one lemon
  • Pinch black pepper
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • Food processor
  1. Step 1

    Chop garlic in food processor.

  2. Step 2

    Add garbanzo beans and 1/2 of the reserved liquid and process until very fine.

  3. Step 3

    Now add your secret ingredient (the peanut butter), parsley, lemon juice and salt and pepper and process until a smooth paste begins to form.

  4. Step 4

    Lastly, drizzle the olive oil into the paste until it reaches the consistency of mayonnaise.

  5. Step 5

    Serve with pita bread, crackers, chips or vegetables or reserve to spread on sandwiches.

Tips & Warnings
  • Olive oil is the key to any good humus recipe, so do not skimp on this ingredient.
  • Try this recipe a few different ways until it's molded to your taste buds. Some people prefer more or less peanut butter, spices and garlic.
  • Refrigerate hummus in an airtight container when not in use.
