In this article you will learn how to frost a cake, and some tips/ tricks for getting the icing nice and smooth!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cooled cake
  • cake spatula
  • icing
  • hot water
  • knife
  • turntable (optional)
  • wilton icing triangle (optional)
  • notebook paper
  1. Step 1

Take your cooled cake and using your spatula drop about half of your icing on top of the cake.

  2. Step 2

Start to spread the icing over the top in a VERY thin layer. Once you have the top covered, spread icing over the sides. This is the crumb coat. Put it in the freezer for the icing to harden.

  3. Step 3

After about 15 minutes remove the cake from the freezer and using a clean cake spatula frost the cake. To smooth the icing try dipping the spatula in very hot water.

  4. Step 4

Put it in the freezer for about 10 more minutes. When you remove it, lay a sheet of notebook paper over the cake and gently rub it. This will smooth out any imperfections!

Tips & Warnings
  • Try using a wilton icing triangle on the side! It's easy and decorative!
