The goth style, which is short for gothic, is a fashion statement as well as an attitude. Being a goth is visual refection of who you are. If you are goth you want to stand out from the crowd and show that you are an individual. Becoming goth is more than just wearing black clothing every day and strolling around in graveyards. Gothic lolita originated in Japan and consists of Victorian looking clothing from the Rococo period. Start listening to so-called Gothic music. Listen to bands such as The Cure, Cruxshadows, Wumpscut, Sister of Mercy and Rammstein. Research different types of goth style and decide which type inspires you the most. Search for titles like romantic goth, cyber goth, traditional goth, steam punk and goth Lolita.

Fishnets and clunky boots are very popular in the goth clothing. Create your own look by searching for clothes at thrift stores and online. Make your own clothes by tearing up old stocking, adding safety pins to shirts and sewing. Avoid a chain store that sells the same clothing to everyone. Create outfits that you feel comfortable in and reflect who you are.

Dread falls are made out of felt or synthetic hair that is attached to elastic then ties to a person's hair. Research different types of goth hairstyles. Dying your hair is one way to look more goth. Dye your hair a dark color and straiten it if your have long hair. Bleach different sections of your hair. Dye over the beach using different colors like red, blue, hot pink or green. Attach different colored dread falls to your hair. Visit your hairdresser and have your hair cut into a mohawk with the sides shaved.

Liquid eyeliner and pressed powder makeup work the best for gothic makeup. Focus on your eye makeup. Use eye shadow colors such as black, dark blue, deep purple or bright red. Start by applying the eye shadow evenly across the upper lids with your finger or applicator. Run the tip of the applicator across the bottom of your eye connecting it to the corners of your eyes. Draw a line directly above your eyelashes on each eye with black liquid eyeliner. Draw a thin swoop at the end of each line. Apply black mascara to both the top and bottom eyelashes. Apply a clear lip gloss or a dark color of lipstick such as maroon or black. Experiment with your makeup and research different styles.
