Before you use the pinecones you've collected in wreaths, ornaments or other crafts, be sure to preserve them. This will extend the lives of your crafts and give the pinecones a more attractive appearance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pinecones
  • Vinegar
  • Spray polyurethane or varnish
  1. Step 1

Fill a sink with warm water and add 1 cup of vinegar. Add the pinecones to this bath and let them soak for about 30 minutes.

  2. Step 2

Drain the sink and rinse each pinecone with cold water. Place the pinecones outside to air dry for about 4 days or until completely dry. If rain is a possibility, dry the pinecones in a garage, covered porch or indoors.

  3. Step 3

When the pinecones are completely dry, spray them with the spray polyurethane or varnish. Observe the directions on the spray you're using, and be sure to spray outdoors or in a well ventilated area.

  4. Step 4

Allow the pinecones to dry in a well ventilated area before using them in crafts or storing them.
