How to Bleach Pinecones

Pinecones make great decorations for autumn by themselves or in wreaths, potpourri or other crafts. Bleaching them white can give them a nice, frosty look for winter. Just follow these steps to whiten them safely and effectively.

Things You’ll Need:

• Pinecones
• Chlorine bleach
• Water
• Plastic bucket
• Sink
• Rubber gloves

1. Create a mixture of half water and half bleach by adding the bleach to the bucket and slowly pouring in the water.
2. Inspect each pinecone carefully and brush loose any dirt, mud, grass or other debris.
3. Add the pinecones to the mixture and allow to soak for about 10 hours.
4. Wearing rubber gloves, remove the pinecones and rinse them under cold water in the sink.
5. Lay the pinecones outdoors to dry, preferably in the sun.
