Googlewhack is a popular game in which players try to find a search engine search term so rare that it only returns one result. Follow these steps to join in the fun.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Web browser and Internet access
  1. Step 1

Open your Web browser and navigate to google.com.

  2. Step 2

Think of a search term that may have a good chance of returning a small number of results, but observe the following rules: each search term must consist of exactly two words. Neither word can be made up, and proper nouns are not allowed. Using quotation marks around the search terms is also prohibited.

  3. Step 3

Enter the two-word term into Google and click the "Search" button.

  4. Step 4

Check to see if both of the words are underlined in blue near the top of the page. If they are not, that means that the words do not exist in Google’s dictionary and the search is not valid in Googlewhack.

  5. Step 5

Finally, check to see the number of hits. A successful Googlewhack will only return one.

Tips & Warnings
  • Refine searches that are close to being successful Googlewhacks to improve your chances.
  • If you search using seemingly random terms, there’s no telling where the links in your results will lead. Browse with caution.
