Rate: (1 Ratings)

Sometimes you'd like to play a random selection from a particular artist or genre instead of your entire iTunes library. Here's how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Open iTunes. Under the "File" menu, select "New Smart Playlist."
Step2
In the dialog box, you will be able to select categories for your playlist, including genre and artist. You can select other categories you'd like to shuffle, including albums and year.
Step3
Once your playlist has been created, it will appear in your left window. Click on the playlist.
Step4
Under the "Controls" menu, select "Shuffle." You should see a check mark next to your selection when you click on the menu again. The selections in the playlist will now play randomly until you deselect "Shuffle."

Tips & Warnings

  • For accuracy in creating or shuffling any Smart Playlist, it's important to make sure your music is accurately labeled in iTunes.
  • If you have music that isn't labeled or identifiable, some music can be labeled by using ieatbrainz.com.
  • You can end the shuffle mode under the "Controls" menu by clicking again on "Shuffle." The check mark should disappear.
