How to Use Iris Paper Folding on Cards
Iris paper folding actually uses no folding, but looks quite unique and stunning on greeting cards. You can use any shape cutout on the front of a card for an anniversary, birthday, or special occasion. A heart shape applies to many occasions, so some people learn this type of iris paper design first. Use the heart design for wedding, anniversary, baby or get well cards.

Instructions

1
Print the triangle iris template at the Origami Resource Center for an easy start. Choose the small, medium or large design depending on the size you want your heart.
-
2
Fold the card stock the way you want your card to fold. Cut out a heart from the card stock with the craft knife. The best place is the front of the card. Make the heart about the same size as the triangle template size you printed.
-
-
3
Tape the triangle template directly onto the heart cutout using removable tape so that the template shows through the heart cutout when you open the card.
-
4
Cut strips of paper as wide as the design sections of the triangle template. Cut out strips of three colors of construction paper, all the same width, but of varying lengths.
-
5
Glue a different color to the card stock over each side of the three outer edges of the triangle template. Onl place glue on the card stock to hold the construction paper in place, not the template. Work your way in, one strip at a time, on each side of the triangle template.
-
6
Close the card, gently remove the template from the front, and view your iris folding design. Then, open the card to let the glue dry completely before closing it.
