Gingerbread play dough is easy to make and so much fun to play with. The play dough can be used for an activity at the party as well as a party favor (something the guests can take home). This fragrant play dough is not only amusing but is smells fabulous.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Cream of Tarter
  • Oil
  • Zipper bags
  • Bag topper (decorated for top of the bag; include recipe and a cut picture)
  • Pan
  • Stove
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Gingerbread man stamps
  • 2x4 self-adhesive labels
  • Computer
  • Printer
  1. Step 1

Make the play dough ahead of time. You will need:

    1 cup flour
    1/2 cup salt
    1 tsp cream of tartar
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1 tsp ginger
    2 TBSP oil
    1 cup water

Mix together in large pan on stove top until dough is sticky and thick. Form dough in pan and allow the play dough to cool completely.

  2. Step 2

Once dough is cool coat your hand with flour and form the play dough into individual balls. Place in a zipper top bag so the dough stays moist.

  3. Step 3

Decorate bag toppers to staple on the bags for your party favors. Cut 6x6 squares of cardstock and fold the paper in half. Decorate the front of the paper with patterned scrapbook paper and gingerbread man stamps. Print the recipe for the gingerbread play dough onto label stickers and stick it on the bag of your bag topper so that the guests can make the play dough at home.

  4. Step 4

Give the gingerbread play dough bags to your guests as a take home gift. Make extra dough to use for a party game or activity.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not over cook the play dough or it may not work as well.
  • Mix the dough thoroughly so that the play dough has an even color and texture. Your play dough will be a soft brown color and look similar to gingerbread.
  • Include a gingerbread man cookie cutter with the play dough as an additional gift.
  • Use ribbon and other embellishments to dress up the packaging for your play dough.
