Rome is a beautiful and very popular place to visit, full of amazing history. It is your dream to go there but you may have been waiting for the kids to get older. They are older now, so you have decided not to postpone it any more. Here are some tips to make the experience an unforgettable one.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Patience
  • One disposable camera per kid depending on the age
  • Good walking shoes

Step1
Where to stay.

Finding an affordable hotel for a family of four or more can be challenging. Most hotels do not have room for four people or they have outrageous fees for extra beds. The choices are very limited. One hotel I stayed at with my husband and my two kids is the Hotel Bolivar. I was a little hesitant because some of the reviews I read said the hotel was loud and the bathroom too small. Well, they have rooms for four and although the rooms are small we were not stepping on each others toes, the bathroom was small but big enough. Their rooms are the right size for 2 adults and 2 kids. The rooms are clean and not loud. They are beautifully decorated with beautiful chandeliers and painted ceilings. You may hear a couple of tourists late at night walking by laughing and talking. Let's face it, you will be so tired at the end of a day in Rome that you will just crash and next day you will wake up early, get ready and leave for the day. This room is probably all you need and the location is perfect for walking every where.
Step2
What to wear.

Rome can be very hot depending on the time of the year you go so you will have to dress appropriately for the weather but one thing that will be the same will be the how much walking you will be doing. Wear comfortable shoes. You may want to carry bandages with you just in case any of the kids gets a blister or falls. Some of the streets in Rome have very uneven pavement..
Step3
What to eat.

Eating in Rome can be challenging when you travel with kids as it can be very expensive. One lesson we learned was not to try to order pizza to share. The will find it it disrespectful if you ask to share two pizzas. Another lesson we learned was not to try to customize your pizza. You may not get what you want. We found that the small cafeterias, which are found on almost every corner are the best places to eat. You can eat great sandwiches there. Also buy your water there and while you are away from the tourists areas. It will save you a lot of money.
Step4
Have fun.
Give the kids each a camera and they will have a lot of fun taking pictures of Rome.
