Jewelry is a wonderful accessory, but it can be a cluttered mess if not organized properly. Necklaces can be easily arranged on a necklace rack. Make your own necklace rack to match your bedroom décor.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Table saw or hand saw
  • Router (optional)
  • Electric drill
  • Ply board
  • Small hooks
  • Paint primer
  • Acrylic paints (desired colors)
  • Sponge brushes
  • Templates
  • Embellishments (silk or paper flowers or ribbon)
  • Modge Podge
  • Photos (optional)
  1. Step 1

Cut your wood in the desired shape with a table saw or hand saw. Typically a triangle shape is easy to cut.

  2. Step 2

Use a wood router to round your edges or create a decorative edge around your wooden plaque.

  3. Step 3

Take your sponge paint brushes and cover the entire piece of wood with paint primer (front and back). Allow primer to dry completely.

  4. Step 4

Once the primer is dry, paint the necklace rack in your desired color. It may take a couple of coats so be sure to let each coat of paint dry thoroughly before painting on another layer.

  5. Step 5

Use templates or other artistic aids to paint an appealing design on your wood. You can add pictures, patterns or just leave it a solid color.

  6. Step 6

Now you can embellish the necklace rack with beads, ribbons, silk flowers and more.

  7. Step 7

Drill holes across the rack either in the middle or a couple of inches from the bottom. Insert hooks in the pre-drilled holes to hold the jewelry.

  8. Step 8

Proudly display your necklace rack in the bedroom or closet area.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use Modge Podge to attach photos to your necklace rack to give it a unique appearance.
  • Another option is to paint a name or initials on the necklace rack in order to personalize it.
  • This project is great for kids; use this idea for girl scouts, 4-H or church groups.
  • Be careful not to drill too deep or the hole will go right through your wood.
  • Use caution when operating electric tools and other equipment.
