Step1
See sail on the sea!
When considering a cruise, look at all the possible destinations. If you live near a port, your destinations may be limited to a specific geographical area, but you will not have to pay for a flight to get to the ship. How long of a cruise is appropriate for your travels?
Step2
Waves at sea...
Now select the type of cabin you would like to live in for the duration of the cruise. You can generally find last-minute deals - particularly on inside rooms without windows. If a room with a view is more to your liking, research a window view room or even a suite. Suites offer more walking room and possibly more storage - depending on the age of the ship.
Step3
Let's first think about the food. Some ships offer you assigned dinner seating with the same crowd at a predictable time - while others leave that open to you as well as which restaurant in which to dine.
Step4
Athletic competitions
Aside from the food, consider your entertainment! Depending on your ship, you can participate in athletic games, shuffle board, golf, rock wall climbing, swimming, and more. Keep in mind that some events need to be signed up for in advance - while on the ship, but prior to the event start time.
Step5
Adventure Parks make great excursions
Don't forget the excursions inexpensive way to experience a cruise is to forego all excursions. However, excursions such as adventure parks, snorkeling, city tours, and cave tubing may be of interest to you. Keep in mind that these always cost extra!!
Step6
Karaoke
More entertainment .... most ships also offer non-athletic events and competitions, such as talent shows, bingo games, chocolate and wine tasting, formal dinners, a captain' s ball, and even karaoke.
Step7
Ah yes, the end of your journey...be prepared to pay extra for special events, alcoholic beverages, soda, and tips. Your cruise will often come with juice and milk - but the alcoholic beverage of the day may run you $8/drink. At the end of your cruise, you will pay about $10/day per person in tips.
