This is not for the squeamish and if you are a snake lover, you should probably stop reading right now. But if you want to learn how to skin a snake so that the hide can be used as a hat band, you're in the right place.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Cut off the head of the snake. Use the pliers to grab the bone at the point where you cut off the head. Hang onto the firm interior with the pliers while you roll the skin down as if you were taking off a sock. You will essentially turn the critter's skin inside out.
Step2
Cut the belly section of the skin straight down with scissors. Lay the skin down flat with the exterior side on a flat surface. Pour rock salt on the inside of the skin.
Step3
Wait for the skin to dry. Once it is dry, it can be easily cut with scissors to whatever size you need, but it won't rip like paper.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are killing the snake yourself, you may want to avoid looking for a poisonous snake such as a rattler.

on 2/23/2008 If I were not too afraid of snakes I would be able to do this following your simple instructions. Kudos to anyone who can do this.
