This goes through some steps to see if the residence currently lived in may be haunted and it might be time to bring in paranormal experts. I consider this moderate as some steps may be in the ESP range which normal individuals may not have or may be hard to determine. 1. First determine if you actually have something to investigate such as a paranormal experience--it is harder to find out if the residence is being haunted if nothing is actually happening that clues a person in.
   Eerie disembodied voices, light or shadow beings appearing, what looks like a person disappearing and reappearing without warning, unexplained noises, unexplained smells, a strong feeling you are not alone, feelings of being touched or mentally contacted, whatever seems extremely out of the ordinary.
2. Test to see if your experience meets the criteria needed to be a paranormal experience. If it is just something like a letter disppearing and it happens once, it is likely not haunting. If objects diappearing happens frequently, it could be a possiobility of a thief or someone getting even with you--but if it's just everyday normal things--some not being of value it may be a haunting. Extremely unsual events are key to haunting like seeing or hearing something that you don't think could possibly be there and these strange events occur more than once.
3. See if you can confirm that the eerie events happening are happening to other people. Sometimes this is impossible to do with other household members as they may deny it--which is cause to bring someone in who might be able to detect any spiritual events like a psychic or a priest.
4. You can also order simple gadgets online at many websites. The most common detection gadget is called a gauss meter. This measures electromagnetic energy and may be able to detect some spirits. You can also buy a digital recorder for the more audible types or video equipment to provide surveillance in rooms where the activity may have happened.
5. You can also use environmental changes to detrmine unsual activity. very cold spots or rarely hot spots in otherwise normal temperature area may be an indicator of spiritual activity.
6. Also, this sort of activity may be sensed mentally. If you feel a strange feeling about certain areas of a house or can mentally sense a being in the room with you and it happens often, this also may be sign a haunting is taking place.
7. If what is happening scares you, annoys you, or may cause physical danger to you personally it may be time to call in more than someone who can just verify it is happening. There are usually local ghost hunting clubs that may be able to help you with your situation and even people that may be able to perform exorcisms such as a priest.
