You can celebrate Armed Forces Day by visiting a local open house on a military base close to your home. On this day of the year it is usually open to the public. Ask them questions that you may have so that you will get a better understanding as to what it is all about.

We celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May ever since it was established by President Harry S. Truman in 1949.

It is celebrated to honor national observance, it is not a national holiday like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, nor is it a federal holiday like Veterans Day.

It is rather a day where we pay respect to the men and women in the military who serve our country. Many citizen's over look the holiday since it is not known as a big holiday like Memorial day or Veteran's Day.

Memorial Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.

Celebrating Armed Forces Day also include common celebrations like parades, festivals, airs shows and receptions. You can also go to a museum that teaches you about the history of Armed Forces Day such as Discovery Museum History Center in Sacramento, California . Check your local listings to find one in your area.

Paying your respects to the men and women in uniform that serve in out military can also be done by just keeping them in your thoughts. The ones who serve out country are brave and they deserve a day to honor them.
