Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Patience
- Self Esteem
- Hunger
Step1
There should be no reason to feel bad about enjoying your own company but yet so few people will do so in public, they fill to self-conscious about it. Why do we all worry so much about what others think of us? After all they are not the ones we need to answer to in the end, it is ourselves.
Step2
There was a stigma about diner's dining alone, but these days I think that stigma has slowly gone away. Although sometimes you may notice someone in a crowd at a table by themselves and feel a bit curious about why they are alone and even feel a bit of pity for them.
Step3
I feel that it takes a brave person to dine alone. All you have to do is bring a book or magazine, newspaper and order your favorite dish and perhaps a glass of wine and lose yourself in your readings. It can be intimidating to others to see you out alone, but who cares.
Step4
I worked in the restaurant business for 8 years and I noticed it is mostly men that dine alone. They seem fine with it also. Most of the time they were businessmen that were in and out. Sometimes it would be a woman and they almost always brought along something to read. I think reading is good company!
Step5
So the way that you can dine along gracefully in my eyes is to be sure of yourself, don't worry what others think. Enjoy your meal and your own company. So many people are afraid to dine alone, maybe because they fill they are not good company themselves. Most people will admire that you have the courage to enjoy your own company, after all we all need to love ourselves before we can truly love another.
Step6
So be proud and rest assured that you can enjoy your own company. At least you can enjoy your meal and not have to worry about uncomfortable silences and talking with food in your mouth!
