Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Note any atypical irritability, a major sign of stress. Little things trigger angry responses to common events. Find out what irritates you and why. Remember that sometimes the people closest to you bear the brunt of your anger whether they were the cause of the irritation or not.
Step2
Do a gut check. Gastrointestinal upset is another major sign of stress, as it causes the body to produce more acid. This leads to stomach upset and, in some cases, irritable bowel syndrome. Try to walk it off. Walk away from situations you can't control. Don't let others' negativity draw you in.
Step3
Muscle tension and headaches often result from stress and worrying. Release negative emotions--write them down on a piece of paper and toss it in the trash. Let it go.
Step4
Watch your eating habits. If you find yourself reaching for food when you are under stress, get out of the house and go for a walk or ride your bike for awhile. If you must eat, keep healthy snacks around. Don't stock up on chocolate and sugary foods.

on 6/6/2008 Stress can be vertually undetectable if you don't know what to look for and can lead to all kinds of health problems...these are great tips! You may add 'lack of sleep', unfortunately, I can speak from experience!
