Tips & Warnings
  • Read up on the area as well as the history and theory behind a vortex before you go.
  • Bring plenty of sunscreen and the appropriate gear for hiking in the desert.
  • Ask questions about the qualifications and experience of your guide before booking a trip.
  • Bring plenty of water if you are going on a long hike.
  • Have a first aid kit with you if your tour operator doesn't have one. Because scorpions, snakes and tarantulas are part of the normal critters you can encounter on a hike to a vortex, you need to be prepared.

on 3/3/2008 Thanks for the suggestions. I found free maps of vortexes in Sedona, available at tourist info centers. It helps to know a little meditation, to really appreciate a vortex. I found Cathedral Rock to be very peaceful and spiritual, and Airport Mesa to be scary (fear of heights LOL). Enjoy beautiful Sedona!
