Making a homemade Valentine’s card is a personal statement that declares your affection. Add to that homemade card by making it in the shape of a heart.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pink cardstock
  • White cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Heart template, stencil or cutting system
  • Tape or other adhesive
  • Creasing tool
  • Straight guide for creasing
  • Ribbons, stamps or other embellishments
  1. Step 1

Cut the heart-shaped front of the card out of the pink cardstock. Take the template, stencil or cutting system to create a heart of any size. If using a template or stencil, cut the heart out of the paper with scissors.

  2. Step 2

Cut the white heart out about 1/2 inch from the right edge of the white cardstock. Cut all but a 2- to 3-inch section on the right side of the heart. This uncut section will create the centerfold of the card. Cut straight in towards the heart from the right side so that the flat (the fold) is on the right side (see picture).

  3. Step 3

Flip the white heart over, so that the fold section is on the left. With the creasing tool and straight guide, crease the section about 1/2 inch from the edge to create a rectangular shape out of the section. Fold the section in and crease.

  4. Step 4

Apply a piece of tape along the entire length of the top of the rectangular section. Line up the white and pink hearts. Press the left side of the pink heart down onto the taped section.

  5. Step 5

You now have a heart-shaped card. Add ribbons, stamps or other embellishments and decorate the card.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don’t have a heart template, stencil or cutting system you can draw the heart by hand or print one from the computer.
