How to Decorate a Wedding with Small Boxes

How to Decorate a Wedding with Small Boxes thumbnail
Jordan almonds are common wedding favors that can go in a box.

A wedding is an opportunity to be elegant, creative and express personal decorative style. Something as small as a box, when used as part of your overall wedding design plan, can add color and functionality to your event. Since boxes are lightweight and easy to move, you can experiment with their positioning on tables and in the main areas of the reception hall. Boxes can also become a repository for wedding favors, giving your guests a keepsake of the decor that accompanies your special day.

Instructions

    • 1

Calculate the number of small boxes you will need. Include one for each wedding reception guest and three for each table to create centerpieces. If you want to create additional decorations---for example at the entryways to the reception and at the gift table---account for these using the event's layout plan.

Purchase the boxes. Wedding retailers will have small boxes, but you may choose to visit a craft store or discount stationery store. The boxes for your guests will all have to be the same size, and they must have a top you can remove. The boxes for the centerpieces and around the reception hall can be slightly larger; you can seal them completely.

    • 3

Decorate the boxes using the color scheme of your other decorations. Wrap centerpiece boxes in decorative paper and seal. Add a wide ribbon. Similarly decorate the guest boxes but do so in such a way that the boxes remain unsealed (lid separate from box). Put aside the ribbon for the guest boxes.

Place the centerpiece boxes in the center of each table. Place a vase with flowers in the center of the table and arrange the boxes around it. You may wish to place a ribbon on the vase that is the same style, color and fabric as the ribbon on the boxes.

Fill the guest boxes with wedding favors. Choose an edible favor such as tea, cookies, candy or chocolates and pack them in clear food wrap before placing them in the boxes. Alternatively, give your guests an item they can use later, such as wine charms, small picture frames, lip balm or candle holders. Wrap these in tissue paper before packing them into the boxes. Close each box and secure with ribbon. Place one favor box at each reception place setting.

Place a few wrapped boxes on the gift table. You can label these boxes with the couple's names and the wedding date. Place a sign next to the boxes to identify this space as the place for guests to put wedding gifts.
