Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Vacuum with a HEPA filter
- Doctor-prescribed medications
- Dog shampoo
- A dog brush
- Room to breathe
Step1
Purchase a higher quality vacuum with a HEPA filter. This will catch extra dander and hair. The Lift-Off Revolution Pet Vacuum is one of the best offered by BISSELL.
Step2
Wash your dog every 1-2 weeks. Use either a baby shampoo or a puppy shampoo so your dog's skin does not dry out.
Step3
Brush your dog every day. Remember to start near the base of the tail and work your way up toward the neck.
Step4
Keep the air fresh. Keep air fresh and ciriculated in your house by opening windows and by purchasing an air filter. A designated "no dog" room may also be beneficial.
Step5
See your doctor for allergy or asthma mediciations. A simple pill, such as Singulair, may be all you need. Pills, nasal sprays, and inhalers are all acceptable methods. Doctors recommend Singular, Veramyst, and Advair.

on 2/12/2008 I had a different problem - I was allergic to my first cat. I noticed that with constant exposure, I developed a tolerance to the cat dander. At this time, I have two cats - one is 13 and the other is 12. Both were born with me as cat midwife - smiling. So there is always a chance that you will get over the allergy! Too bad I couldn't have read your article years ago - would have made things a lot easier for me!
