A popular upgrade to the latest generation of the Zune Music Player is the ability to sync content with your computer wirelessly. Here’s how to set it up.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with at least Windows XP with Service Pack 2
  • Zune Player
  • 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network
  • SSID (network name) of the wireless network and security key

    Set Up Wireless Sync

  1. Step 1

Plug your Zune into your computer, using the provided USB sync cable

  2. Step 2

Sign in to the Zune software and click SETTINGS, then DEVICE and then WIRELESS SYNC.

  3. Step 3

    Click SET UP WIRELESS SYNC.

  4. Step 4

When the software finds the SSID that your computer uses to connect to the network, select YES, USE THIS NETWORK. Tip: To scan for a different network, click NO, CHOOSE A DIFFERENT NETWORK. If your network doesn't appear on the list, try again or click SHOW ADVANCED SETTINGS and manually enter your network settings.

  5. Step 5

    Click FINISH.

  6. Step 6

Sync automatically. Once you've configured Zune for wireless syncing, all you need to do is dock your Zune or plug it into a power outlet. After one minute, your Zune will begin syncing with your computer. It will remain wirelessly linked with your computer and sync any new content in your collection until you undock or unplug the device (or until you press CANCEL).

  7. Step 7

Sync manually. You also can start wireless sync manually from your Zune, whether the device is plugged in or not. To start, make sure your computer is on and logged in to your Windows user account. On your Zune, select SETTINGS, then WIRELESS and then SYNC NOW.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your Zune must be docked or plugged in to a power outlet. To do this you will need either a Zune Dock or a Zune AC Adapter, both sold separately.
  • Your Wi-Fi network must be on.
  • You must be logged in to your Windows user account on the computer where the Zune software is installed. The computer can be locked, but you must be logged in. The computer also needs to be on the same network as your Zune.
  • No media can be playing on the Zune. The Zune must be inactive for at least one minute. Battery level must be at least 10 percent.
