If you've come across the South American fruit for the first time, you may be wondering how to eat guava. This delicious fruit is native to Central America, parts of South America, Mexico, and the Carribean. High in vitamins A, B and C, it also includes levels of calcium unusually high for fruit. Guavas have more vitamin C in their rinds alone than entire oranges. Guava fruits have yellow, green or pink rind with a pale or rose colored flesh. The entire guava, including rind, flesh and seeds, may be eaten -- and the entire fruit should be eaten for maximum health benefits. Here's how to eat a guava:
Pick a Guava
Select a ripe guava. It should be somewhat firm, but give gently under pressure.
Step2
Wash first.
Wash the fruit with clean water or fruit cleaner.
Step3
Guava fruit
Eat the guava like you would an apple--simply take bites of the fruit, rind and all. The rind may be slightly bitter in some cases; however, it is a great source of nutrients and is better not to overlook.
Step4
Slice guava in a decorative manner as a decorative addition to a buffet table or fruit bowl.
Step5
Make guava juice by blending the fruit and straining through a fine sieve or cloth to remove seeds and larger pieces of rind.
Step6
Guava salsa?
Add finely chopped guava fruit to your favorite salsa recipe.
