Step1
First, decide on your audience that you would like to write for: men, women, tv/ts, straight, gay? Scribble ideas in your notebook. Afterwards, start thinking about fetishes and fantasies. Form a character and make notes about their actions, emotions, thoughts, and feelings. For example: if you decide that you want to make up a story about an erotic dinner date that begins and ends in the kitchen or dining room, you will not only need to think about the physical elements of the story, but consider the aromas of the foods, the lighting in the room, and how the character must feel. Did he/she have a long day at work? Was this planned or a surprise? Consider yourself in the fantasy to help bring all elements of the physical and mental environment of the character to life.
Step2
Next, after you gather all information, start writing. Take time to stop and read your story out loud. This will, not only make it seem more believable, but it will also give you an idea as to how you want to deliver the “voice” of your character. Also, try to consider your reader. Most people who listen to erotica like 15 minutes of story time or less. It may be a good idea to compose several short stories, and if you wish to offer them for publication as an anthology later, you can group them into genres of your choice.
Step3
Now, this is where your bravery and determination as an author comes in. Many sites will let you publish free erotica, which is good, but if you are starting out and want to get paid, you may want to consider an “adult platform” to sell your stories. In case you didn’t know, I am eluding to adult chat sites. Now, I am not talking about a 900 number on the television, I am referring to an online platform where you can record your stories and callers can call in and listen to your recorded listings. You can also type up your stories and sell them via email delivery. I sell my work this way, and while I do not get to keep all of it (I usually keep about 40% of my sales,) my work is accessible 24/7 to all who are interested. Also, I do not have to worry about getting a rejection letter, as if I were to submit it to a print publication and get denied. However, the best thing about using an adult platform is that I do not have to engage in live chat, as my erotica stories have already been recorded.
Step4
Finally, if this interests you, is to join a platform where you have the ability to market your work. You may or may not need help with html, marketing, pricing, or other business-related aspects. For these tasks, a great support and help can be found by joining an online community of PSO’s (phone sex operators.) Since many work on these platforms in many different specialties (which include the ability to sell live voice, recorded voice/stories, pay-to-view emails/stories, and other items,) they are a wealth of knowledge and can assist with many questions. In fact, some have sections and help set up specifically for people looking to market themselves independently. Also, personal experiences of various platforms are expressed, thus enabling you to better make your choice as to where you would like to market yourself. While this does seem like a time-consuming and rather new adventure, when you build regular clients who absolutely are intrigued by your work, they can always request you write a personal story for them. Making yourself and your erotica available to customers will build great relationships, and over time, allow you to be a successful paid erotica writer.
