How to Keep Employees Happy

Many employees only care about one thing: clocking out. Why? Employees often feel that their employers don't care. Many times, they're correct. I've heard a number of people say their employer doesn't pay them enough or compliment them enough. Of course, that's only a few remarks they've made. Who suffers? The employer's business does because--again--the employees only care about clocking out. Therefore, they don't put a lot of effort in to customer service. How would you like to increase your sales as well as keep your employees and customers satisfied? Better yet, how would you like your employees to nominate you for an Employer of the Year award? Read on to learn some simple steps that just may help you achieve one or more of those rewards. Still, you need to apply them first.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Treat your employees to lunch by having pizza or any other takeout food sent to your place of employment. Doing this on occasion will show your employees you appreciate what they do.
Step2
Reward them with prizes like ones for the most sales or the friendliest customer service.
Step3
Offer them a small commission on every sale they bring your way. Then watch as their customer service skills improve.
Step4
Give them a Christmas bonus.
Step5
Present a gift to each employee on holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. Some great gifts that they would appreciate could include a couple days vacation, a gift certificate to a large department store or fancy restaurant or a little extra cash on their next paycheck.
Step6
Compliment them on their good work ethics.
Step7
Instead of getting angry and yelling at your employees when they do something the wrong way, offer advise to help them improve.
Step8
Send a get well card if they're sick, injured or in the hospital.
Step9
There are many other ways to keep employees happy. These steps are but a jump-start to rekindling your relationship with your employees. Always follow the most important piece of advice: treat them how you would like to be treated if you were in their shoes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't lose money by offering commissions, gifts, prizes and bonuses. Instead, figure it into your budget to see how much you can afford and still profit.
