Would you like to know how to contact publicists to request an interview with celebrities, well-known authors or anyone else? Read on to discover how I use email to contact publicists with interview requests.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Find out the contact information for the person you would like to interview by visiting their website. Somewhere on their contact page, you should discover the information you're looking for. The webpage may list the name of a publicist or be referred to as "press" contact.
Step2
Write the contact information down on a Rolodex card.
Step3
Log in to your email account to "Compose" or "Create" a new email message. Be sure to type in the email address of the contact.
Step4
Type "Request for an Interview--Name" in the subject line. Replace "Name" with the first and last name of the person you wish to interview.
Step5
Write your interview request. See the following email I send as a sample of a request for an interview:

Day of Week, Date

Dear Mr. (or Ms.) _____:

I am a writer for (name of publication or website), which features information about the entertainment industry (or whatever that publication or website is about). I write about _____ for the ____ section/column, and I would love to interview Mr. (or Ms.) _____.

If Mr. (or Ms.) _____ is available, I can conduct the interview with him (or her) either through email or by phone. I prefer to do the interview via email, but if it's more convenient for Mr. (or Ms.) _____, we can schedule a phone interview.

Please contact me and let me know if this could be arranged.

Thanks,

Your First and Last Name
Your Title
Name of the publication or the URL of the website you're writing for
Step6
Proofread the email for any spelling or grammar errors.
Step7
Click "Send" and hope for success.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the interview request as short as possible.
