Step1
The first thing you need to do is position your cursor at the point where you want to add one of those special characters.
For example, if I want to type "resume" as "résumé," I would position my blinking cursor after the letter "r."
Step2
Next, go to the INSERT menu and choose SYMBOL
Step3
When the SYMBOL menu comes up, you'll see 2 tabs at the top. One will say Symbols and the other will say Special Characters. Click on the one that says SYMBOLS.
Step4
Underneath the Symbols tab, you'll see a section that says Font. The white dropdown box next to that should say (normal text).
If it doesn't, pull that menu down and change it to (normal text).
Step5
Right across the screen from where it says Font, you'll see something that says Subset. Next to that is another white dropdown box. Pull down that menu and select Basic Latin from the list.
Step6
Below this in the big white section, you'll see a whole bunch of letters and symbols. Using the up and down arrows on the right hand side, scroll down until you see the letter you want to use.
In my example from, it's the "é" that I'm looking for.
TIP: Some are uppercase, while others are lowercase.
Step7
Once you've found the letter you'd like to add to your document, double-click on it.
On the bottom right of the menu, the CLOSE option will be highlighted. This means your letter has been added to your document. Click Close to leave this screen and return to your document.
TIP: If you prefer, you can single-click on the letter you'd like to add, click Insert, and then click Close. This does the same thing as above, but is one extra step long.
