      Send out invitations with the purpose of your party on them. Tell your guests that it's an ice cream sundae party. This is the time to request that they bring a topping.

      Set a stack of bowls at one end of your kitchen counter and set spoons next to them.

      Set up tubs of ice cream on your kitchen counter. Have a few flavors available, especially basics like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. Avoid ice creams that already have toppings mixed in with them.

      Set up a line of bowls at the end of the counter, each with its own topping in it. Some good sundae ideas are chopped nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips, mini M&Ms, crumbled cookies or brownies and shredded coconut. Set jars of toppings around the bowls too, including caramel and chocolate sauce.

      Set up a couple cans of whipped cream and a bowl of cherries at the end of the assembly line.
